Where are we now
We have almost finalized the process of setting ouselves up as a limited company (via the Companies Registration Office) , registering and clearing with the Revenue Commissioners and introducing ourselves to and gaining acceptance from relevant authorities including Fingal County Council.
Along our journey,we have had advice and consultation with other groups and organisations as well as accountants and solicitors.
The new community council has almost reached its destination in terms of a complete well-structured organisation and company. With almost everything in place we are now looking forward to further engaging with the sub committees so that we can activate the new Community Council and begin to deliver to the community.
Balbriggan Community Council was set up in January 2014 in order to ensure that Balbriggan was not left voiceless and powerless after the abolition of Balbriggan Town Council.
How did it all start ?
Building the council
Building the council has been both lengthy and difficult. While many other community groups and councils inherited structures within which to operate, we have had to start at the very beginning.
As a voluntary group we have invested a great deal of time and energy in constructing a council which will allow inclusion, transparency and shared decision making for all within our community.
We are looking to the future and since everyone in the community can partipitate we hope that you will bring your concerns and ideas to our attention. The executive committee meets on a regular basis and no less than once a month allowing us to determine how best to represent you and the wider community.

Balbriggan Community Council was set up on foot of a large well-attended public meeting called because of concerns about a proposal by Fingal County Council to adversely relocate the town's Library, and also concerns about the abolision of Balbriggan Town Council.
Despite the impromptu nature of the setup, the outcome to date has been over-whelmingly positive.
