"Balbriggan Community Council was set up following on from the successful ‘Save our Library Campaign’. With the abolishment of the Town Council happening on the 23rd. May 2014 we felt it was necessary to have an alternative in place and ready to take up the reins. At the first meeting on 14th January 65 people candidates put their names forward and after meeting with each and every one a steering committee of 15 was formed, with many of the remaining candidates serving on sub committees.
The committee is non political and no one is involved with any political party. The aim of the Council will be to improve our town and hinterland in order to attract investment, tourism and to make it a better place to live and raise children. The council will be keeping a close eye on any future planning for the town. There is a wealth of ideas out there for making the town a more attractive place, one of which is to improve our town centre.
We will work with and for all of the Clubs Associations Groups and Businesses in the town to promote Balbriggan in every way possible and ensure its future. We will also work with Fingal Co Co to ensure that any plans for the town and its environs are for the good of the town. We are currently set up as a steering committee to give us time to familiarize ourselves with the wealth of groups out there and also the corridors of Fingal Co Co. We are sure that the outgoing Town Council will be able to give us a lot of advice from their own experiences." - Extract from Press Release dated Feb 25 2014
